Pastor Frank Elkins asked me to lead the music for him in a revival at FBC-Granite, Oklahoma in the early 1960s. Becoming friends with Pastor Elkins, I joined Portland Avenue Baptist Church. I was employed as Director of Community Development for OKC, OK.
I enjoyed singing in the church choir. Bill Green was our director.

When Bill Green was called to be Director of Music for the General Baptists Convention of Oklahoma, I was asked to be interim director of music at Portland Ave.

After Pastor Elkins ministry, Dr. Dane was called as Pastor. Dr. Dane was loved by everyone. I was asked to be Training Union Director under Dr. Dane’s ministry.

In 1967, my work as a City Planning Consultant required that I take up residency in Wichita Falls, Texas. The wonderful members of Portland Avenue Baptist, gave me a leather bound Baptist Hymnal with signatures. They also gave me a framed certificate that read: “To the worlds greatest interim, unpaid music director.”

Portland Ave. Baptist Church was a consolation during one of the most difficult times of my life. Their love and guidance is beyond description.

I will be 89 years of age July 7, 2009. I do not drive any more. Therefore, it is difficult to keep appointments as much as I would like.

Tell Bill Green I would love to sing in his 75-voice choir, but I’m afraid he would leave and I’m not physically able to lead again at my age.

May our Lord-Jesus continue to do His work through Portland Avenue Baptist Church – OKC-OK.

Heart-to-heart love,

Brown and Jeanne Hudson
